Getting to experience a character dining meal at Disney World is often on most people's 'must do' list.
So what is character dining? How much does it cost? And which one should you book?
Find out everything you need to know about character dining at Disney World, which is the best value and which ones to skip!
How Disney World Character Dining Works
Most character dining meals cost a set price and include all of your food and sometimes also include a drink. Some character dining meals are all-you-care-to-enjoy, where you can order more of the foods you like!
The characters make their way around the restaurant during the meal so that everyone has time to see and interact with them. You can also take physically distanced photos so you have memories to take home of your experience!
At the moment character dining experiences are temporarily modified experiences. You can still see and interact with the characters but now with incorporating physical distancing.
Some character dining experiences will give you a pre-signed photo of the characters as they can't autograph currently.
Character dining meals that were previously a buffet have now become family-style dining, where a platter or skillet of food is served to your table for you to share. Many of these meals are all-you-care-to-enjoy so you can order more of the foods you enjoy the most!

Let's look at the best and worst character dining experiences, which ones you should book and which to avoid!
My Top Picks
Topolino's Terrace for great food, an amazing view and the ability to see Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Daisy in their artist costumes!
Storybook Dining at Artist's Point with Snow White for a beautifully themed restaurant, a unique menu and the chance to meet the Evil Queen!
1900 Park Fare for incredible character interactions in the quaint setting of the Grand Floridian Resort.
My Least Favourite Character Dining Experiences
Akershus Royal Banquet Hall for terrible food, rushed character interactions and a high price for what you get.
Chef Mickey's because of its popularity it can get very busy and loud with little time to interact with the characters.
Ohana because it can get very hectic and loud at this character dining experience.
Best To Worst Disney World Character Dining Meals That Are Currently Open
Topolino's Terrace
Hollywood & Vine
Tusker House
Garden Grill
Chef Mickey's
Which Should You Pick?
The current character dining experiences available at Disney World are all pretty good so it is hard to rate them from best to worst!
Topolino's Terrace is the stand out as the food is amazing, the setting is beautiful and you get to see Mickey and Minnie!
Chef Mickey's would be my last pick because it can be very busy because of how popular it is and therefore can feel a bit rushed. You most likely won't get meaningful character interactions here. If you would love to see Mickey at your meal then Topolino's Terrace is the one to book!
Hollywood & Vine, Garden Grill and Tusker House are all great options too. The way to pick between them would be which characters you would like to see or what type of food you enjoy. You are likely going to have a great time no matter which one you pick!
The five character dining meals that are currently open all charge the same price. Breakfast costs $42 for adults and lunch and dinner costs $55 for adults. Because of this the best way to choose character dining meals at the moment is based on which characters you would like to meet.
Out of all the character dining experiences at Disney World the only one I actively avoid is Akershus Royal Banquet Hall. The food was the worst I have ever had at Disney (if fact it was some of the worst I have ever had anywhere!) and the character meetings were super rushed and not worth the money.
If dining with the Disney Princesses is what you are looking for then I would pay the bit extra and book a table for Cinderella's Royal Table, as you also get to dine inside Cinderella Castle or head to Trattoria al Forno at Disney's BoardWalk.
How To Choose Character Dining Meals
The main things to consider when picking your character dining are:
What character do you want to see?
What type of food do you like to eat?
The price
The location
All of these factors can help you narrow down which experience to book. If you are looking for a character dining meal in the park you are visiting this can help you narrow down a lot, as most parks only have one or two character dining meals to choose from.
If you don't mind travelling to a Disney World Resort you then have many more options available. Oftentimes the food and quality of the character interactions are much better at the resorts as they have the ability to spend more time with you. The only exceptions to this are Chef Mickey's and Ohana because of their popularity they get very busy so your time with the characters may be impacted by this. (Check out my blog post about why you should make the journey and dine at the Disney Resorts!).
Sometimes you will have a certain character that you want to see so this can be a big deciding factor. Characters such as Mickey and Minnie Mouse make appearances at lots of character dining experiences so you have a big range to choose from.
If you are looking for certain characters like Stitch or Vampirina they only appear at one meal so you know exactly where to book! The Evil Queen can only be met with at Storybook Dining, there isn't a meet and greet with her in the parks, so this is a fantastic way to meet this Disney Villain!
Sometimes the character dining meals that have characters that you don't see as often can be the best! This can be because a lot of people want to dine with Mickey and Minnie so these experiences can be overlooked. The interactions at these experiences can be much more meaningful and fun and help to create the best memories! Some great underrated character dining experiences can be found at Trattoria al Forno and 1900 Park Fare.
If you don't mind which characters you get to meet, you are just looking for a fun experience and good food, then some of the best choices for you are Topolino's Terrace, 1900 Park Fare, Storybook Dining at Artist Point with Snow White, Garden Grill and Trattoria al Forno.
If there is a certain type of cuisine you enjoy that can also influence your decision. All the menus for the Disney restaurants, including character dining meals, can be found on the Disney World Dining website.
The cost can also be a deciding factor. Prices can differ wildly so if there are two character dining experiences you are interested in but one is significantly more expensive this can help you to pick which to book.
