Today spooky season has arrived as it is Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party day! Or it should have been. I LOVE Halloween and Disney Villains are my favourite so Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party is the perfect event for me!
Because we would be having a late night enjoy all the exciting activities at the Halloween party I had planned a laid back day to save our energy for later!
Boma for Breakfast
I planned to start the day with a late breakfast at Boma. I really love this buffet restaurant so we had to make another trip, this time for breakfast. And when you are staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge you definitely have to take advantage of all the awesome food that is on offer to you!
TOP TIP!
Buffets are a great way to start the day! As you can eat as much as you would like you can have a really filling breakfast that will see you through the day!
When at Boma I have to have the POG juice! It is so iconic and really delicious! The amount of different foods on offer is incredible! I love that as well as items you would expect at a breakfast buffet you also get some amazing African options and unique takes on classics. The french toast bread pudding with praline sauce is a fan favourite for a reason!
It's a good idea to walk past all the stations at first just to see what takes you fancy....and then be able to plan just what to get first! It is the worst if you fill up on the cold options and bread and then can't enjoy the hot items and sweet treats. So I definitely recommend taking a look first so you can plan your meal out!
TOP TIP!
Buffets are a great option for groups that have mixed dietary needs as everyone can pick what foods they can eat and enjoy. And they can have as much of it as they like!
Boma is a brilliant option for everyone. As well as African dishes there is also lots of American classics, so whatever your taste is you will be able to find plenty to enjoy. And it is plenty!
So after having a delicious breakfast we would be heading out to our first activity of the day...miniature golf!
Disney Miniature Golf
Disney has two miniature golf courses on property. We would be visiting Winter Summerland. The other course is called Fantasia Gardens. Not many people realise that there is miniature golf at Walt Disney World! It is a great way to have a fun morning or afternoon if you have a day that you are not visiting the parks.
TOP TIP!
At Winter Summerland there are two course - one winter themed and one summer. Go for two rounds to experience both!
I love Winter Summerland! As you would expect from miniature golf there is a lot of great theming and interesting ways you have to master to get your ball in the hole but on top of that there are also lots of surprises! It is a really fun activity for a relaxed day.
Final Outlet Mall Visit for Last Minute Bargains!
I wanted to pop back to the Orlando Premium Outlets at Vineland Avenue one last time to see if any new amazing merchandise had come in to the Disney Character Warehouse. The stock is delivered regularly so there is always a chance you will find some more hidden gems and bargains!
TOP TIP!
It is a great idea to visit the Disney Character Warehouse towards the end of your trip as you may find items you had seen in the parks in this outlet store for a much lower price. It is also the best place to get souvenirs for people back at home and be able to save some money in the process. Everyone's a winner!
Relaxing at Animal Kingdom Lodge
The rest of the afternoon would be spent relaxing at the hotel to save some energy for the party later! I think I could very easily spend hours relaxing by looking out over the Savannah and watching all the beautiful animals. I think that is why I love Animal Kingdom Lodge so much. It isn’t just a place to go and rest your head. You could quite happily never leave the resort and have an amazing time because there is just so much to see and do.
After a lovely laid back day it is now time to get ready in our Halloween costumes and head to Magic Kingdom for Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party!
The Plaza for Dinner
I had planned an early dinner at The Plaza before the start of Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. I have always heard great reviews about The Plaza and it is the perfect location to dine in before the Halloween Party as you will already be in the park. Another great option is to dine at one of the Monorail Resorts, the Polynesian Village Resort, Grand Floridian Resort or the Contemporary Resort, as you are then only a few minutes monorail ride away from the Magic Kingdom!
TOP TIP!
A ticket to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party allows you to enter Magic Kingdom from 4pm. Make sure you have an early dinner reservation, so you will be finished before the party starts at 7pm. There is so much to see and do at the party that you don’t want to miss out on anything by spend a big chunk of your time in a restaurant.
I was going to order the bangers and mash at The Plaza. A taste from back home! It is also something a bit different to what I have seen on other menus. And the chocolate banana bread pudding looks divine! Another bonus is that The Plaza is one of a handful of places that does vegan milkshakes! It is always so exciting when you can indulge in the same treats as everyone else!
Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party
The time has arrived. It is party time! I cannot overstate how much I love Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party!
TOP TIP!
Unfortunately this years Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is cancelled. But from today, 15th September, till 31st October, Halloween and fall decorations will be out in Magic Kingdom, ready for all the awesome photo ops! There will also be a Halloween themed character cavalcade where you will get to see classic characters in their Halloween costumes. All the delicious Halloween Party treats are back and available to purchase including the Not So Poison Apple Cupcake and Constance’s For Better or For Worse Wedding Cake. And for the first time ever adults will be able to wear a costume in the park during park hours!
There is so much on offer at this special ticketed event, but with that comes the need to choose what you really want to make sure you get done. For me I always want to be able to see the Hocus Pocus show, the Boo To You Parade and the fireworks, ride the attractions that have Halloween overlays and partake in some trick or treating! Oh and I can't forget all of the awesome Halloween PhotoPass opportunities!
There are lots of amazing character meet and greets and with a range of character that are only out during the party. The queues for these get very long and can take hours for just one meet and greet. So because of this I tend to appreciate the characters in their Halloween costume from a distance and if there is a character greet with a shorter queue I will go and get my awesome photos!
To do everything on offer I think would take at least two trips so if you are a massive Halloween fan and want to enjoy everything this is something to consider doing.
Haunted Mansion has amazing PhotoPass Opportunities, actors performing outside the Haunted Mansion and some incredible lighting. Haunted Mansion is already one of my all time favourite Disney attractions and at Halloween it just ramps everything up!
Pirates of the Carribean also features live actors to interact with and Space Mountain and the Mad Tea Party have Halloween overlays so these are must rides during the party!
I watch Hocus Pocus every Halloween so the fact there is the Hocus Pocus Villains Spectacular, that not only features the Sanderson Sister but also all the classic Disney Villains (including my favourite, Dr Facilier!), is just incredible for me! This show is incredible popular and for good reason!
TOP TIP!
There are three performances of the Hocus Pocus Villains Spectacular and two show times for the Boo To You parade. To enjoy smaller crowds go to the second Boo To Your Parade and the midnight performance of the Hocus Pocus Villains Spectacular. A lot of people with smaller children will go to the first performance and parade and leave after the Not So Spooky Spectacular fireworks, leaving far fewer people to watch the final versions of these two events.
The highlight of the night for me is the Boo To You Parade and particular the start. Be sure to get a spot early so you don't miss the best part - the Headless Horseman!
What a spectacular sight! And so begins the Boo To You parade. This is the best opportunity to see all the Disney Villains up close! And of course the Fab 5 in their Halloween costumes!
And there are some special guests! Including The Hitchhiking Ghosts from Haunted Mansion, and my personal favourites, The Gravediggers! This parade is by far my favorite from Disney. As a massive fan of Disney Villains, Haunted Mansion and everything spooky I could not wish for anything more!
It wouldn't be a Disney event without incredible fireworks and these don't disappoint! The Not So Spooky Spectacular is awesome! All the villainous colours and spooky references really add to a stunning firework display.
I cannot wait for Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party to return! I think it will be better than ever when we all get to enjoy it next!
And with that our look at Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party ends! I am off to watch the Boo To You Parade on Youtube now!
In tomorrows blog it is EPCOT day! I will be talking about why EPCOT is an amazing park for food and the International Food and Wine Festival!
